Bison

Possibly the most iconic Yellowstone resident: bison! Some days you can't seem to escape them (and the traffic jams they love to cause) and some days they disappear, leaving the landscape lonely without them. Although they are commonly seen, bison always find a way to take my breath away - whether it's by the staggering numbers they gather in Lamar Valley, the intimidating grunts of a huge male pursuing a female, or a herd creating a protective circle around their calves as wolves close in around them. Bison were slaughtered nearly to extinction, and in the 1880s, only 24 bison remained in Yellowstone. Thanks to conservation and stewardship efforts, the population in the park is now almost 6,000. Please enjoy my photos of and feel free to contact me for prints or inquiries.
